Florida Standards Assessments

8/28/2025

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) is a progress monitoring system that is administered three times per year to track your student’s progress in learning the Benchmarks of Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards throughout this school year. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your student’s score for the PM 1 administration of grade 9 or 10 FAST ELA Reading are now available on the FSA Family Portal. You will access the FSA Family Portal through a parent or student FOCUS account.  On the FOCUS Portal Homepage please click on this icon, which is found above your student’s classes and below their name:

These results are for informational purposes only and should be used to identify areas that may need additional instruction and support.

Each progress monitoring test covers the full “test blueprint,” meaning that all content expectations for that subject and grade level are assessed. It is important for teachers and families to understand that PM1 and PM2 score information is intended to provide baseline results; the PM3 score is used to determine course placement and passing the Gr 10 FAST Reading PM3 is the ELA testing graduation requirement.

For more information about student scores or the Family Portal, please visit https://flfast.org/families.html

If you have questions about your student’s score, contact their English or Intensive Reading teacher to discuss strategies and ways to improve their results.  Teachers can be contacted through FOCUS by clicking on their name on your student’s schedule.

If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact Jasmin Baez at Baez.Jasmin@brevardschools.org or Erin Gideon at Gideon.andrea@brevardschools.org.

Thank you!
